Curriculum Intent 

At Aston Academy, we aim to equip all students with the skills and confidence to become linguists and citizens of the world. We aim to create a language learning experience that is engaging, meaningful, and effective for all learners. 

Ultimately, we strive to cultivate a deep appreciation for languages within our students. By fostering a natural curiosity for languages and building students’ confidence in their linguistic abilities, we aim to inspire an intrinsic motivation to explore and respect diverse cultures and people. We want to create an inclusive learning environment where all students, regardless of their background or needs, can access the curriculum and develop the skills to understand and respond to a wide range of information and communicate effectively in the target language.

Our ultimate aim for students is that they:

• Feel they are good at languages.
• Need less and less of our help.
• Can communicate confidently in writing and speech.
• Understand more about the countries and cultures where the language is spoken.
• Want to know more so they can keep improving and learning.
• Aim to become fluent (fast and accurate language use).
• Develop other skills that will help them later in life (empathy, analytical thinking, flexibility, perseverance, memory retention and communication skills).
• Embrace diversity and celebrate cultural differences.
• Know how to make progress in languages.
