Extra Curricular Activities
At Aston Academy we value the important role that extra-curricular activities, house competitions and enrichment opportunities play in a student’s progress and enjoyment in school.
In Term 2 we had 36% of students in Year 7 – 10 attend an after school club or activity and 56% of Year 11 have attended after school period 6 revision.
The aim of the clubs we offer is to create additional opportunities for students to learn and develop in a wide range of areas. Students that attend clubs not only develop skills to support them academically but also develop their personal skills.
If you have not tried a club yet make this term your time to come along and try one!
If there is not a club on the list that interests you then make sure you raise your ideas to your student council member in your tutor group so it can be discussed in the next council meeting or to Mr Esberger so we can get the club added.
In the letter below there are the key dates of clubs for term 2. Please find below the wider curriculum clubs, Sports Clubs and House Competitions.
Wider Curriculum Extra-Curricular
In addition to the house competitions and sports clubs we offer, a range of other subject areas will be coordinating extra-curricular clubs to take place throughout Term 2. These clubs will explore aspects of the subject in creative and engaging ways and will be open for all students to attend. They will take place on a Thursday afternoon from 3pm – 4pm.

Extra-Curricular Sport
For students interested in sport the clubs highlighted below will be open to all students each evening from the end of school until 4pm. The focus during these sessions will be on enjoyment and participation. The clubs will also have fixtures against other schools throughout the year. To be part of the team you should attend training and all players will be provided an opportunity to represent the school. Details for fixtures will be given to the students selected as finishing times will vary depending on the venue of the fixture.
House Competitions
Each student at Aston Academy is placed in to a House linked to his or her tutor group. For example 7 Furnival 1. Throughout the year achievement points gained by students in class not only go towards individual recognition but also towards the total House competition score. At the end of the year we add all House points up to crown our House champions!
Another way a student can win additional points for their house is by taking part in our House Competitions. These competitions run from 3pm – 4pm after school and House Staff will visit tutor groups in the build up to select a team to represent them. Below are the dates of the competitions in Term 2. If your son or daughter would like to sign up for any of these competitions please see the house staff highlighted below when they visit your tutor group.
Furnival – Miss Bayliss and Miss Cocking |
Darcy – Miss Fenton and Miss Thackeray |
Verelst – Mr Whitehouse and Miss Collins |
Melton – Miss Slack and Miss Watkins |
