Careers Advice and Guidance
Here at Aston Academy, we are wholeheartedly committed, through our ‘Aston Aspirations’ careers programme of activities delivered to Year 7 to 13, to prepare all our learners to make informed decisions about their future/next steps ensuring they maximise their potential and successfully transition into positive and aspirational destinations.
National Apprenticeships Week Please find here an outline of which activities and opportunities Aston Academy has organised to celebrate National Apprenticeships Week, and to give you all some information about this week in general.
Nationally, the week is celebrated between Mon February 6th and Fri February 10th, and although we at Aston Academy would very much like to mark the week, we have chosen to celebrate slightly later: Mon Feb 27th to Fri March 3rd.
The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2023 is ‘Skills for Life’. The week will reflect, therefore, on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career and help businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with a wide range of skills for the future.
Over the course of the week there will be opportunities for our students to learn about a variety of careers that can be accessed via the apprenticeship route and also how the apprenticeship route can help students succeed in the world of work.
Please see below a series of clips which have been provided by the National Apprenticeships website to support teachers, students and parents/carers to find out more about the apprenticeship programmes from within specific subject areas. Students will be watching these in their associated lessons too this week.
I also include a link below the video clip links to subject specific posters, which provide a QR link to take you to even more information.

There is also another free online resource which is well worth highlighting: the Amazing Apprenticeships Aracade, which provides students with a series of games that have been created to engage students in the classroom, or at home with you, and set them enjoyable (yet educational) home learning tasks through this really interesting, fun portal. The suite of games will provide interactive and fun ways for students to explore and learn about apprenticeships, whilst working in groups or individually.

We have also invited some external visitors into school on Mon February 27th, Tuesday 28th and Thursday March 2nd. Emma Briggs from RNN (Rotherham & North Notts College) will be delivering Assemblies and running Workshops on the Monday and Tuesday morning and Laura Brewster from Sheffield College will run further associated workshops on the Thursday.
Students will, in addition, be focusing on Apprenticeships during Tutor Time sessions this week, and their subject teachers will take some short time out of lesson delivery to highlight Apprenticeship opportunities stemming from individual subject areas.
Aston Academy will also highlight the benefits of Higher Education and opting for/following a University route during other key points in the academic year, but is committed to providing full, detailed, impartial and balanced information about a wide range of "next-step" choices, so that our students, along with you, may make the most informed choices possible.
